Children with autoimmune disorders should be tested for Celiac

Children suffering from autoimmune disorders should be tested for digestive health issue celiac disease, an expert has claimed.

Speaking at the Congress of Clinical Rheumatology, Dr Alexa B Adams urged medical practitioners to test young people suffering from myositis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and arthromyalgias.
Previous research has identified a link between a number of autoimmune disorders and the condition, which can worsen if left untreated, Internal Medicine News reports.
Dr Adams, a pediatric rheumatologist and pediatrician at Cornell University, suggested that early diagnosis of the digestive health condition could slow down the development of more serious illnesses.

With a significant number of children suffering from JIA found to have celiac disease, Dr Adams recommended a gluten-free diet as a method of relieving symptoms.
People living with celiac disease are advised to consume high quantities of naturally gluten-free foods such as meat, fish and vegetables in order to enjoy nutritious meals.
