Sean Rogers, 30, suffered from IBS for many years: like so many sufferers, he put this down to stress. In the summer of 2003, after a particularly stressful time at work and home, Sean’s once manageable IBS escalated into the more serious and debilitating Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). He was diagnosed by his GP and was referred to hospital where he spent three days undergoing invasive tests to establish the extent of his condition. He was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and offered steroids to stabilise his condition.

Despite his pain and discomfort, Sean wanted to avoid steroids, as he knew of their low success rate and potentially dangerous side effects. So he set out to find an alternative solution. In September 2003 he undertook six months of Scenar treatments – a Russian inspired electronic device. Then in the summer of 2004 he tried Chinese Herbs and acupuncture which actually made him feel worse. Meanwhile, he also tried a variety of products including Primal Defence, Nature’s Biotics, Biokult, LB12, Lactobaccilus gg, 3-Lac and Collodial Silver. Therapies he tried included hypnotherapy, homeopathy and reiki. He also consulted a highly expensive gut nutritionist who eventually gave up on him! Nothing improved his condition. In fact, as his immune system was so compromised he suffered severe adverse reactions from the pro-biotics (a common problem among IBD sufferers). Overall, Sean spent several thousand pounds on therapies and supplements: all to no avail.

Throughout his search for a natural solution, Sean’s weight plummeted from 13 ½ stone to just under 10 stone. Which, at six foot tall, left him looking skeletal. He developed allergies to nearly all food and his was unable to digest or hold onto any food he ate: instead it rushed through him in the form of diarrhoea accompanied by bleeding. He suffered from ‘foggy brain’ and nearly had to give up work as a computer programmer as he was unable to focus or think logically. His energy levels were incredibly low. From training at the gym regularly and playing football at a competitive level several times a week, Sean descended to being barely able to get out of bed: he was so weak through malnutrition and pain. He had to take anti-diarrhoea tablets before he could leave the house.

Sean was also very depressed: his zest for life had gone; his toned muscular physique had wasted away and his continued efforts to treat his IBD ended in failure. He capitulated and took anti depressants to help him cope with the mental trauma associated with his physical condition.

During the course of his extensive research Sean was recommended to try Custom Probiotics CP-1 – a very strong probiotic that contains five superior strains of freeze-dried probiotic microorganisms with a total bacterial count of up to 70 billion per capsule.

Despite his aversion to pro-biotics, he was urged to try this product by a fellow IBD sufferer who had found it really helped. Sean searched on the Internet and was relieved to find it available online at Immunecare. It was November 2004: 15 months after the IBD had started. Sean weighed just under 10 stone and was desperately ill.

Within 30 minutes of taking his first CP-1 capsule Sean recalls feeling his stomach settle. He took one capsule a day for a few weeks and then started increasing the dose as is recommended.

His digestion settled down and his diarrhoea reduced in severity. He began to put on weight and his strength returned. Within a couple of months Sean was able to eat a wide variety of foods and started back at the gym. He found it easy to get back his muscle and tone and has recently resumed playing football. Having played professionally as a teenager for Brighton, this return to his favourite pastime has given him a huge boost: for a long while he thought he’d never have the energy to kick a ball again.

Within three months of taking the CP-1, Sean put on three stone. He is now 13 ½ stone: his happy weight. He eats pretty much what he wants but is health-conscious so follows a healthy diet and keeps dairy foods to a minimum. But he now enjoys going out for drinks with his friends, tucking into a pizza and cooking whatever he likes at home.

It is now 2011 and Sean still feels really well and is continuing to look after himself. He is supplementing his diet with Immunecare Lactoferrin, an antiviral, antibacterial ‘super supplement’ also from Immunecare. This is keeping his immune system healthy and helping his body continue its recovery. He now takes four CP-1 capsules daily and feels ‘wonderful’ on them.

Ulcerative Colitis affects the inner layer of the colon or large bowel. It starts in the rectum and may extend as a continuous inflammation from there into the rest of the colon. It can also affect the joints, liver, skin and eyes. Symptoms can include diarrhoea, bleeding, an increasing, urgent need to go the toilet and pain. It is often exacerbated by stress.
Orthodox treatment is to give steroids to reduce the inflammation and control the symptoms before prescribing sulphasalazine or similar products to keep the condition under control.

Custom Probiotics CP-1 have around 70 billion total bacterial count per capsule, according to independent laboratory tests. This count is very high compared to many other products. It contains high counts of L.Acidophilus, L.Rhamnosus, L.Plantarum, B.Longum and B.Bifidum which are most specifically helpful to the small and large intestine.
